TTProfil

Xavier Legette is an extraordinary prospect due to his size, but especially because he is a legitimate athlete. Legette has been measured at 6'1" and 223 lbs, which slightly changes the perspective, similar to Rashee Rice, who was announced at 6'3" last year before being measured at 6'0". He is capable of running extremely fast, even as fast as Tyreek Hill (reaching 22.3 mph against Mississippi State with the ball in hand). He possesses good upper body flexibility and body control for a lanky player like him. He is obviously powerful, but I haven't seen a real moment of dominance from him in all aspects of the game.

Against press coverage, Legette lacks the explosiveness or a developed variety of releases to win his matchups against top cornerbacks. His lack of elite acceleration prevents him from creating separation, and his breaks at the top of routes are not sharp. He doesn't yet utilize his long arms well enough to create separation. He is much more comfortable against off-man coverage because it gives him time to build up speed. When running inside routes, he is quite challenging for the cornerback to have a real impact on him due to his physique. Against zone coverage, he doesn't sit down in his routes and doesn't consistently provide viable options for his quarterback. His lack of experience may explain this, but often it appears more like a lack of football IQ. He really needs to progress in this area and be able to create off-script. He would be a real problem if he excels in this aspect.

I prefer to see Xavier in the slot rather than on the outside at the moment. He is much more productive and can offer more solutions deep than when he is on the outside. He doesn't have a developed route tree; he runs simple cross routes or go routes, and he is not a precise route runner. He has taken several snaps in the backfield, which is an interesting option to quickly get the ball into his hands.

Legette has good ball skills; he tracks the ball well and has good eye-foot-hand coordination for his size. He has a huge catch radius with long arms and is also capable of impressive reflexes in traffic. Overall, his hands are reliable, but his catching technique is not always consistent, leading to drops. He is capable of attacking the ball at its highest point, but I would have liked to see a bit more physicality and impact in acrobatic or 50/50 receptions because he sometimes drops passes due to a lack of concentration. With the ball in his hands, he can be dangerous if he has space; he can generate much more speed than when running routes.

Legette is a good run blocker, powerful, and with good technique, but I would have liked to see a bit more dominance and better footwork. With his size, he should excel in this area.

Xavier Legette is an intriguing prospect due to his physique and ball skills, but there has been a significant lack of production against the best defenses he has faced. His lack of experience (only one year of production) and technique have been detrimental to him. There is a lot of work to be done with him, but if you buy into the combination of speed/size/ball skills, I'm okay with that. However, at the moment, we can't see much else beyond that.
J’évalue Xavier Legette comme un prospect du 3ème tour.
