TTProfil

Trey Benson has the ideal size for his position, with optimal muscle mass and excellent power in both the lower and upper body.
Although his build suggests a power back, he is a very intriguing athlete. He has good explosiveness and acceleration for his size.
He possesses the speed to effectively attack the third level (long) and create big plays.
His agility and quickness should not be underestimated.

Benson demonstrates good footwork with light feet and good lateral agility, allowing him to make lateral cuts in the backfield and navigate through a zone scheme; however, his hips are not very fluid, which can hinder his direction changes from being smooth.
Thanks to his excellent vision and patience, he can identify openings in front of him, execute cutbacks, and explode through gaps with impressive acceleration, making him very comfortable in a GAP scheme.
Due to his high center of gravity, he lacks elite ability to attack the inside, as he can be easily brought down and needs to work on lowering his shoulder and his center of gravity.

While Benson has a good ability to break tackles, it's not elite because he tends to not always lower his shoulder or sometimes stands too high on his feet as mentioned above.
He can execute solid cuts or stiff arms but has a tendency to lose his balance upon contact, making him not impossible to tackle.

He is good at protecting the ball, doing a fine job with his second arm upon contact. He has been credited with only 2 fumbles over 2 seasons by ESPN.

Benson shows promise as a receiver, with good hands and a smooth transition from receiver to runner. However, his route tree is not well developed, with his use being limited to screens or swing passes, and it's doubtful he can significantly expand his range of routes.

His pass protection is, at best, adequate. There isn't much tape available in this area. While he has the size to absorb hits, his technique, angle approaches, and footwork need improvement.

Trey Benson is a very interesting prospect. He can be used in various schemes and could be a three-down player if he manages to improve and refine certain aspects of his game.
He has the athletic qualities and IQ to be at least a very good backup, and with progression, he could become a solid starter in the NFL.
I rate Trey Benson as a fourth-round prospect.
